Light Rays Text Effect
Published in Intermediate, Specific Effects, Photoshop.Start off with the text you want to have light rays come out of.

Rasterize this text layer. Right click on the text layer and click “Rasterize Type” on the drop down menu.

Now go to filter and in the Distort section, choose Polar Coordinates. Set the Direction on Polar to Rectangular.

Now go to Image>Rotate Canvas> 90° CW

Now go to the Filters menu, and in the Stylize section, click Wind. Choose the setting to “wind” and the direction to “From the right”
Control-F to repeat once or twice, Depending on how far you want your light rays to go.

Now go to Image>Rotate Canvas> 90° CCW
Go to filter and in the Distort section, choose Polar Coordinates. Set the Direction on Rectangular to Polar. It should look something like this.

From here you can apply any background. I chose to make my text rise from behind a mountain. I hid the text layer, then I selected the part of the mountain I wanted visible.

Then I made the text layer visible again, and deleted the selection.

This was my end result:
