Making a Logo: Dashed Lines and 3d Objects
Published in Advanced, Intermediate, Specific Effects, Illustrator. To start off, create a basic rectangle shape.

Now lets quickly make it 3D.

You will see that lots of 3d objects may slow down your computer. To stop pointlessly using up so much memory, simply expand the shapes that make the object look 3d.

Then copy paste your expanded object and resize it so it creates this nice L shape. (I used 4 minatures of the large rectangular prism to make the leg of the L.)

Now comes the fun part. With the Pen tool, make 2 lines like below.

To make them dashed, apply these settings to the stroke window. Make sure they are 2 different colors. I recommend colors that flow together well. Blue and green, yellow and orange, dark purple and light purple .. etc.

Select both lines and press Alt-Control-B. This is the Blend option in illustrator. It can be used on almost anything. Go to Object > Blend > Blend Options and make sure your options look like this:

Great! Now you have a gorgeous detail on your logo. Do the same on another side of the shape.

Lower it’s opacity so the front of the logo gets your attention.

Add some simple detailing with the pen tool. Add gradients instead of flat colors to keep in tune with the blend on the logo.

For a base, make 2 lines like this. Make sure they have different dash/gap lengths! Set the dash length in the Stroke window.

Go through the same procedure (Alt-Control-B) to create another blend.

Lower it’s opacity and set it beneath the rest of the shapes. Here is the final result!
